Come to America. Stay Here.
"Welcome to the United States of America."
What wonderful words to hear! What a great feeling to present your visa to the immigration official at a U.S. airport and rejoin family members you may not have seen for years. What a privilege to come to live and work in the United States.
Deportation Defense
And what a nightmare if the government says, "You must leave now. You must leave your family, your friends, and your job and go back to your old country."
That nightmare almost happened to one of our clients:
- Immigration officers arrested a longtime permanent resident 5:00 a.m. The reason? An old conviction. He was set to be deported that evening. His wife called our offices at 3:00 p.m. We filed an emergency writ in federal court. He was released on bond and remains to this day in the U.S.
That nightmare did happen to another of our clients:
- A woman held permanent resident status. The Department of Homeland Security deported her illegally. She contacted us. We filed a writ on her behalf in federal court to force the U.S. government to return her. We prevailed. She returned, and remains in the U.S. today as a lawful permanent resident.
Deportation defense is an important part of our practice. We have dealt with a wide variety of deportation issues. Often, a deportation proceeding arises from a criminal conviction or a failed asylum petition. We know, through experience, how to confront these issues. In particular, our broad experience with criminal defense assists us in our deportation defense practice. This experience is most helpful if you have been charged with a crime and that charge is having an impact on your immigration status.
In short, if you face deportation, let us face it with you. Contact us immediately.
Family Visas and Work Visas
Our immigration practice also assists people who want to come to live and work in the U.S. We can help with the filing of applications for visas and appear at any subsequent hearings. The most common form of visa is a family visa. Citizens of the United States, and, to a lesser extent, permanent residents, may petition for visas to bring family members here. We have also represented a number of small and medium-sized businesses that sought to bring potential employees here through labor certification visas.
Whatever your immigration needs may be -- deportation defense, family visas, work visas, asylum or any other issue -- do not hesitate to contact us.
